3 July 2001, 14:02  Euro Zone June economic sentiment indicator 101.1 vs 101.8 in May

BRUSSELS (AFX) - The euro zone economic sentiment indicator fell in June to 101.1, against 101.8 in May, said the European Commission. In the EU, the economic sentiment indicator fell to 101.2, from 101.6 in May, the commission said. In the euro zone, the industrial confidence indicator fell to minus 7, from minus 5, construction confidence fell to minus 5, from minus 2, and consumer confidence fell to minus 5, from minus 4. The retail trade confidence indicator was unchanged at minus 7, while the services confidence indicator was unchanged at 23, it said. In the EU, industrial confidence was unchanged at minus 8, construction sector confidence fell to minus 4 from minus 3, and consumer confidence fell to minus 4 from minus 3. Retail trade confidence was unchanged at minus 5, while services sector confidence was unchanged at 22, it said. By country, the sharpest downturns in overall sentiment were in Austria and the Netherlands, both down 0.9, and France and Germany, both down 0.6, it said. In contrast, the sentiment indicators rose in the UK and Belgium, up 0.6 and 0.4 respectively, it said.
