3 July 2001, 11:47 Yen rises on Koizumi remarks
Hong Kong, July 3 (BridgeNews) - The Japanese yen strengthened in a
quiet Asian morning session Tuesday, inspired by Prime Minister Koizumi's
comment in the Financial Times that Japan has no intention to push yen
down. The yen rose against the dollar in early trade to 123.67, inspired
by Koizumi's remarks.
However, bids emerged near the 123.70 level and pushed the yen to 123.95
against the dollar. Dow ends up on NAPM data; Nasdaq ends lower after
recent rally New York, July 2 (BridgeNews) - The Dow industrials rose as
investors dismissed a profit warning from 3M (MMM) and focused on some
encouraging economic news. The Nasdaq fell slightly, however, as selling
pressure set in after five-day rally. The Nasdaq closed down 11.82, or
0.55%, to 2148.72. The Dow was up 91.25, or 0.87%, to 10,593.65 and the
S&P 500 was up 12.34, or 1.01%, to 1236.72.
