27 July 2001, 14:08 Euro zone May trade surplus 1.7 bln eur vs 1.0 bln yr earlier
BRUSSELS (AFX) - The euro zone's trade surplus in May rose to 1.7
bln eur, from 1.0 bln a year earlier, said the EU's Eurostat
statistical service, adding that the figures are a first estimate.
April trade surplus has been revised to 0.6 bln eur, from a 3.0 bln
first estimate deficit, and against a 0.2 bln surplus in April 2000, it
said.
In the EU, the May first estimate trade deficit is 6.3 bln eur,
against a 6.7 bln deficit a year earlier, it said.
The April revised deficit is 8.8 bln eur, against a first estimate
deficit of 10.4 bln, and against 8.4 bln a year earlier, it said.
May euro zone exports rose 2 pct to 90.1 bln eur, from 89.2 bln,
while imports fell 1 pct to 88.4 bln, from 88.1 bln, it said.
