26 July 2001, 08:44 European stocks lower amid earnings woes
London, July 25 (BridgeNews) - Europe's major stock markets came under
more selling pressure amid the threat of a further deterioration in
corporate earnings. The U.K.'s FTSE-100 benchmark index fell to its lowest
level for two-and-a-half years, as a bad reaction to outlook comments in
the telecommunications, engineering and banking sectors overshadowed some
positive individual results from a handful of companies. At 1535 GMT, the
FTSE Eurotop 100 Index was down 44 points, or 1.5%, at 2893 points.
