24 July 2001, 17:22  German provisional July CPI up 0.1 pct vs June; up 2.7 pct yr-on-yr

FRANKFURT (AFX) - Consumer prices in Germany were up 0.1 pct in July from June and up 2.7 pct from a year earlier, the Federal Statistics Office said. Market consensus was for an increase of 0.2 pct in July from June, and for an increase of 2.8 pct year-on-year. It said year-on-year growth was lower than the 3.1 pct increase recorded in June largely due to falling motor fuel prices. Germany's harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) was up 0.1 pct in July from June and was up 2.7 pct year-on-year, according to preliminary data, it said. Final CPI will be published in mid-August, it said.
