23 July 2001, 09:04  G7 economic statement draws flak from Japanese press

Tokyo, July 22 (AFP) - Japanese newspapers slammed the economic statement by Group of Seven (G7) leaders for being too optimistic and lacking the determination to help avert global recession. "It lacked a sense of crisis over the existing crises, including turmoil in the world economy brought on by simultaneous declines in share prices due to adjustment in the U.S. information-technology sector," the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said.
