20 July 2001, 14:20  Euro zone May industrial production down 0.1 pct vs Apr, down 0.1 yr-on-yr

BRUSSELS (AFX) - Euro zone seasonally-adjusted industrial production fell 0.1 pct in May, from April, and by 0.1 pct from a year earlier, said the EU's Eurostat statistical office. In the EU, industrial production fell 0.2 pct on a monthly basis, and by 0.5 from a year earlier, Eurostat said. In April, euro zone production was down 0.7 pct from March, and up 1.1 on an annual basis; in the EU the figures were down 0.8 and up 0.7, it said. In May, euro zone monthly changes for intermediate goods were up 0.1 pct, capital goods up 0.3, durable consumer goods down 0.8, non-durable consumer goods down 0.1, and energy up 0.7, it said. On an annual basis, intermediate goods were down 2.3 pct, capital goods up 0.4, durable consumer goods down 5.1, non-durable consumer goods unchanged and energy up 3.2, it said. Among countries on a monthly basis, the sharpest falls were in the Netherlands, down 4.2 pct, Denmark down 2.0 pct, Germany down 1.2, and the UK down 0.9, it said. On an annual basis, sharpest falls were Denmark down 4.2 pct, UK down 3.2, Belgium down 2.9, and Finland down 2.3, it said.
