17 July 2001, 19:06  French govt says 2002 budget spending to rise 2 pct in nominal terms

PARIS (AFX) - Budgetary spending will rise by 2 pct in nominal terms, Prime Minister Lionel Jospin's office said.
The budgetary targets set for each ministry by Jospin today are based on an assumed inflation rate of 1.5 pct in 2002, which compares with 1.2 pct in 2001.
Defence spending will rise by 1 pct, or 83.5 bln ffr, in 2002.
Among the departments identified as priorities, home affairs
spending will rise by 4.3 pct, judiciary spending by 5.5 pct, education by 4 pct and spending on the environment by 7 pct.
The government expects to create 12,000-13,000 new jobs in the public sector.
Debt servicing charges are expected to rise to 245 bln ffr in 2002, from 240 bln in 2001.
