13 July 2001, 15:10  OUTLOOK UK June jobless down 2,000; May average earnings up 4.7 pct

LONDON (AFX) - The UK June jobless total is expected to have fallen a seasonally-adjusted 2,000 on a claimant-count basis from May, according to the median of 21 analysts' forecasts compiled by AFX News. The claimant count fell a seasonally-adjusted 3,200 in May while the unemployment rate stood at 3.2 pct, unchanged from April. May headline average earnings -- the average of the year-on-year increase in the seasonally-adjusted average earnings index for each of the latest three months -- are expected to have risen 4.7 pct year-on-year, compared with a 5.2 pct rise in April. Three months to May unit wage costs are forecast to have risen 1.2 pct year on year, compared with the 0.5 pct growth rate recorded in April. Labour market data are released on Wednesday, July 18.
