MUNICH (AFX) - Economy minister Werner Mueller said it will be "relatively difficult" for the economy to grow by 2 pct this year, "but by no means impossible." In an interview with Focus Money to be published tomorrow, Mueller also said that additional tax cutting measures are unlikely to spark recovery as previous measures are yet to bear fruit. "If tax cuts of 45 bln dm have not sparked a economic recovery, then the next 15 bln dm will not," he said. Mueller added that after next year's national election he would only be prepared to stay on in his current role, "if the ministry is returned to its previous structure," During his spell as finance minister, Oskar Lafontaine took away a large amount of responsibility from Mueller's office. At the end of last month, Mueller told the daily Bild that talk of a recession in Germany is "nonsense" and chances are good that the government's growth estimate of 2 pct will be reached this year.
