Frankfurt, June 8 (BridgeNews) - German industrial production declined
again in April for the second month running by a seasonally adjusted 0.9%,
the Finance Ministry said Friday, adding that a downward revision of the
data can be expected. The rounded two-month comparison shows a "clearly
downward production development," it said. The beleaguered construction
sector that was blamed for the fall in overall industry output in March
did not burden production this time.

In the annual comparison, industry output rose 1.3% in April in
workday-adjusted terms.
Western German industrial output fell 1.1% on the month clearly
sharper than in eastern Germany, where production declined 0.1% from
March. The key western German manufacturing sector output slumped 1.6%
from March.
Production in the German construction sector, on the other hand, rose
1.0% in April on the month after a 14.2% drop in March.
In the rounded, 2-month comparison of March-April with
January-February, German output was fell 2.9%, affected substantially by
slump in construction output by 11.1%.
German manufacturing sector produced 2.4% less in the two-month
comparison, with output of capital goods declining the most, by 3.3%,
followed by pre-production goods (-2.6%) and durable and non-durable goods
(-0.9%).
Western German industrial production declined 2.8% in March-April from
January-February, while in eastern Germany output fell 4.3%.
Comparing March-April with the same 2 months a year ago and adjusted
only for working days, German production was up 1.8% with western German
output rising 1.8% and eastern German output increasing 1.5%.
Germany's seasonally adjusted production index measured 113.2 compared
with 114.2 in March (1991=100) with western Germany at 112.5 following
113.7 and eastern Germany at 121.0 following 121.1.
Western Germany's manufacturing sector index measured 118.4 following
120.3 in March and 122.3 in February.
