8 June 2001, 10:25 US stocks higher; chip stocks soar despite warnings
New York, June 7 (BridgeNews) - The Nasdaq advanced, led by a 7% jump
in semiconductor stocks as investors shrugged off profit warnings from
Broadcom (BRCM) and National Semiconductor (NSM). The broader market also
ended higher, although gains were more subdued due to weakness in tobacco
and financial issues. The Nasdaq closed up 46.20, or 2.08%, to 2263.93.
The Dow was up 20.43, or 0.18%, to 11,090.67 and the S&P 500 was up 6.92,
or 0.54%, to 1276.95.
