TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Private sector machinery orders in April rose
6.3 pct month-on-month following a 3.6 pct fall the previous month, the
Cabinet Office said.
Year-on-year, orders rose 10.5 pct following a rise of 5.7 pct the
previous month.
The data excludes shipbuilding and power generation equipment
orders.
The Cabinet Office provided the following breakdown of the April
orders, with month-on-month and year-on-year figures given
respectively:
Manufacturing - down 0.4 pct, down 3.3 pct
Non-manufacturing - up 8.8 pct, up 21.2 pct
Public sector - up 16.2 pct, up 4.1 pct
Offshore - down 24.8 pct, down 3.7 pct
This compares with the following month-on-month and year-on-year
figures for the previous month:
Manufacturing - down 1.8 pct, up 6.2 pct
Non-manufacturing - down 3.6 pct, up 5.3 pct
Public sector - down 17.5 pct, down 18.1 pct
Offshore - up 14.1 pct, up 25.0 pct
Private sector economists earlier forecast April machinery orders
would come in at between a rise of 5.2 pct and a fall of 7.0 pct
month-on-month, with a consensus of a fall of 0.9 pct.
Year-on-year, they forecast April orders would come in between a
rise of 10.0 pct and a fall of 3.3 pct, with consensus around a rise of
3.6 pct.
