7 June 2001, 15:37 Japan parent non-financial firms yr to March pretax profits up 26.76 pct: TSE
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Parent-level pretax profits of non-financial
companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 26.76 pct
year-on-year in the year to March 2001, the TSE said.
Pretax profit of manufacturers rose 41.61 pct year-on-year, while
the pretax profit of non-manufacturers rose 7.98 pct rise in the
period, the TSE said.
Parent-level pretax profit of all industries including financials
was up 15.61 pct year-on-year in the year to March 2001, the TSE said.
The biggest increase was in the air transportation sector, which
was up 603.58 pct year-on-year, followed by paper, which experienced a
225.24 pct year-on-year rise, followed by machinery with a 202.25 pct
increase.
The biggest decliner was the foods sector, in which pretax profits
fell 24.37 pct year-on-year in the year to March 2001, followed by
wholesale trade, which saw pretax profits fall 4.92 pct.
Among financials, the pretax profit of banks was down 47.95 pct
year-on-year, while that of the securities sector fell 49.78 pct, the
TSE added.
