LONDON (AFX) - UK housing starts fell 5 pct on a seasonally adjusted basis in the three months to April when compared with the previous three months, and were down 9 pct compared with the same period a year ago, according to figures released by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). Housing starts totalled 40,800 in the latest three months while completions numbered 39,400, down 5 pct on the previous three months. Housing starts in April stood at 13,700, compared with 13,600 a year ago, while completions fell to 12,600 from 13,100 in April 2000, according to provisional estimates.
