5 June 2001, 14:02  Euro zone April PPI up 0.3 pct vs March, up 4.1 yr-on-yr

BRUSSELS (AFX) - Euro zone industrial producer prices index rose 0.3 pct in April from the previous month, giving a 4.1 year-on-year rise, said the EU's Eurostat statistical office.
In the whole of the EU, producer prices rose 0.2 pct on a monthly basis and by 3.6 from a year earlier, Eurostat said.
In March, the euro zone rises were 0.1 pct and 4.2 while in the EU, PPI was stable on a monthly basis and up 3.6 from February, it said. April euro zone monthly rises included intermediate goods 0.4 pct, capital goods 0.1, durable consumer goods 0.2, and non-durable consumer goods 0.3 pct, it said.
On an annual basis, intermediate goods prices were up 5.7 pct, capital goods 1.0, durable consumer goods 2.1, and non-durable consumer goods 3.8 pct, it said.
In the EU, the monthly rises were intermediate goods 0.3 pct, capital goods 0.1, durable consumer goods 0.1, and non-durable consumer goods 0.3 pct, it said.
Annual rises were intermediate goods 5.4 pct, capital goods 0.4, durable consumer goods 1.8 and non-durable consumer goods 3.4 pct, it said.
Among member states, the sharpest monthly rises were, Germany, up 0.5 pct, Finland and Sweden, both up 0.4, France, up 0.3 and Italy up 0.2, it said.
There were falls in Luxembourg and the UK of 0.4 pct, Netherlands, down 0.3, Portugal, down 0.2, and Spain, down 0.1, it said. Largest annual rises were Netherlands 6.0 pct, Germany 5.0, Italy 4.3, Ireland 3.9, Finland 3.7, and Portugal 3.2, it said.
