5 June 2001, 10:28 German April wholesale sales down real 0.3 pct yr-on-yr, up 0.2 pct vs March
WIESBADEN, Germany (AFX) - German wholesale sales fell a real 0.3
pct and were up a nominal 4.0 pct from a year earlier, the Federal
Statistics Office said.
Wholesale sales rose a real 0.2 pct and a nominal 0.7 pct in April
from March.
The real wholesale sales index rose to 104.3 in April from 104.1 in
March and fell from 100.7 in April 2000 (1995 equals 100).
The nominal wholesale sales index rose to 110.3 in April from 109.5
in March, and rose from 102.8 in April 2000.
Only two areas achieved both real and nominal increases in March
compared to a year earlier -- foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco, which
were up a nominal 9.1 pct and a real 3.8 pct, and agricultural
commodities and livestock, which were up a nominal 13.5 pct and a real
7.1 pct, the statistics office said.
