TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - The Tokyo-area June consumer price index fell
0.4 pct month-on-month after rising by a revised 0.2 pct in May, the
Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and
Telecommunications said.
The May CPI was initially put at a 0.1 pct fall.
Year-on-year, June CPI declined 0.6 pct following a 0.7 pct decline
in the previous month, the 22nd straight monthly fall, it said.
Excluding prices of fresh food, Tokyo-area prices in June fell 0.2
pct after rising by 0.1 pct in May.
The core CPI fell 0.7 pct year-on-year following a revised 1.0 pct
decline in May, extending the year-on-year fall to the 21st straight
month.
The May data was initially given at a 0.9 pct fall.
In June, texitile product prices declined 2.0 pct year-on-year
following a 1.5 pct fall in the previous month, while fuel product
prices rose 3.4 pct year-on-year following a 3.9 pct gain in the
previous month.
The Cabinet Office, meantime, said, after analysing the CPI data
released by the public management ministry, it did not notice any
fundamental change to a weak price trend.
