TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Minister of Financial Affairs Hakuo Yanagisawa said he thinks potential losses on write-offs of bad loans at the major 16 Japanese banks will be limited as they have adequately provided for losses. "The major Japanese banks have already built up enough loan loss reserves, in an appropriate way, (against loans to near-bankrupt firms), so I believe potential losses from writing off those loans will be limited," Yanagisawa said. "I think the banks will not fall short of capital adequacy requirements set by the Bank for International Settlements," he said.
