Tokyo, June 25 (BridgeNews) - No surprises came out of Sunday's election for the Tokyo Legislature as the Liberal Democratic Party won 53 seats for an increase of five seats over its pre-election strength. Widely seen as a bellwether poll for predicting the outcome of the more important House of Councilors election in July, the strong showing could boost Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's ability to overcome opposition to structural reform and to stay in power for the long term.
