25 June 2001, 09:22 European stocks higher on rate cut hope, but gains limited
London, June 22 (BridgeNews) - Most major European stock markets
closed higher as gains by banks and financial stocks enabled markets to
end a choppy week on a firm footing. Hopes for a cut in U.S. interest
rates helped the banks, but weaker-than-expected business confidence data
from Germany and more warnings about corporate earnings in the U.S.
limited gains. At 1600 GMT, the FTSE Eurotop 100 Index was up 2 points, or
0.1%, at 3141 points.
