19 June 2001, 17:00 Redbook says US June retailer sales -1.3% vs May
New York, June 19 (BridgeNews) - U.S. retailer sales through the
second week of June ending June 16 were down 1.3% from May on a seasonally
adjusted basis, the Instinet Redbook Research weekly survey said. That
compares with a 1.1% decline in the first week of June.

In the latest week, sales were "modestly higher" compared with the
previous week. Business picked up throughout the nation due to warmer
temperatures which helped lift seasonal goods, the report said.
Father's Day sales were generally good as expected, it also said.
Further, household goods generally held up "pretty well," with the
Northeast and the West showing the strongest sales performance, the report
said.
On a year over year basis, sales were up 1.4% compared with the month
of June 2000 and up 1.6% compared with the same week last year
