19 June 2001, 14:04  Euro zone April industrial output down 0.5 pct vs March, up 1.6 yr-on-yr

BRUSSELS (AFX) - The euro zone's seasonally-adjusted industrial production fell 0.5 pct in April from March, but was up 1.6 from a year earlier, said the EU's Eurostat statistical service.
In the EU, the monthly change was a 0.4 pct fall while year-on-year output rose 1.4 pct, Eurostat said.
In March, euro zone industrial production was down 0.3 pct from February, and up 2.9 year-on-year, while in the EU, output was down 0.2 month-on-month and up 2.6 year-on-year, it said.
April euro zone monthly figures show intermediate goods production down 0.6 pct, capital goods down 0.1, durable consumer goods, down 0.5, and non-durable consumer goods up 0.3, it said.
The annual changes are intermediate goods up 1.0 pct, capital goods up 3.5, durable consumer goods down 1.6, and non-durable consumer goods up 1.7, it said.
Among countries, sharpest monthly falls were Finland, down 6.6 pct, Italy, down 1.9, Belgium, 1.6, and Denmark 1.4, it said.
Sharpest annual falls were Belgium, down 4.1, Italy, down 1.8, Spain, down 1.5, and UK, down 0.9, it said.
Sharpest annual risers were Portugal, 4.9 pct, Germany 3.0, Netherlands 1.9, and France 1.8, it said.
