19 June 2001, 10:05  Japan April leading index revised up to 33.3 from prelim 28.6

Tokyo, June 19 (BridgeNews) - Japan's index of leading indicators, which shows economic condition two to six months ahead was revised up to 33.3 in April from a preliminary 28.6, the Economic and Social Research Institute at the Cabinet Office said Tuesday. The leading index has remained below the critical 50.0 "boom-or-bust" level for four straight months through April.
An index below 50.0 signals economic construction, while one above that level indicates economic expansion. The index of coincident indicators, which roughly shows current economic conditions, was revised down to 10.0 in April from a preliminary 14.3. The coincident index has been below the 50.0 level for four consecutive months through April. The lagging index, which shows the state of the economy six months to a year before, was revised up to 42.9 in April from a preliminary 33.3.
