15 June 2001, 12:45  Nikkei ends 0.4% lower, limited reaction to BOJ decision

Tokyo, June 15 (BridgeNews) - Japanese shares ended lower, but well off their low as earlier falls in the wake of the tumble of U.S. shares overnight were trimmed by purchases among select defensive issues. There was no major reaction to the Bank of Japan's decision to keep its policy unchanged as hopes for the additional monetary easing action had been receding, traders said. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average fell 56.28 points, or 0.4% to 12,790.38, after declining as low as 12,578.78.
