--German May wholesale prices up 0.5% vs Apr; up 4.0% on year
Frankfurt, June 15 (BridgeNews) - German wholesale prices rose 0.5% in May from April, and were up 4.0% on the year, the Federal Statistics Office in Wiesbaden said Friday. The rise in wholesale prices continued to be influenced by hikes in meat prices and oil products. Excluding oil products, wholesale prices in May rose 0.1% from April and were 3.0% higher than a year ago.
Annual price rises in May included a 39.4% rise in live pigs, a 38.8% rise in poultry, a 36.3% rise in pork and a 26.2% rise in citrus fruits, the Federal Statistics Office said. Among year-on-year German price falls the office noted lower prices for live cattle (down 29.6% on the year), potatoes (down 27.3% on the year) and raw coffee (down 20.1% on the year). Monthly price rises included a 9.4%-rise in prices for citrus fruits, a 3.6% rise in light heating oil and a 2.3% rise in raw coffee, the statistics office said. Monthly declines in prices were recorded for bananas (-15.2%) and live pigs (-4.3%). The following table shows German wholesale price developments in past months, changes in percent.
