14 June 2001, 19:22  US FX Daily Outlook: Dollar mostly higher in subdued activity

By Cornelius Luca
New York, June 14 (BridgeNews) - The greenback opened mostly higher versus the major currencies following quiet activity in the European market. The euro fell to a two-day low of 84.92 cents on long liquidation while the dollar posted marginal gains against the yen following the Cabinet Office's bleak outlook for the Japanese economy.
Sterling/dollar slipped from a four-day high of 1.3926 but remained perched near the highs, while dollar/Swiss franc climbed to a two-day high of 1.7965. Dollar/Canada advanced as well, but, just like dollar/yen, it remained within Wednesday's range. Thursday's domestic economic agenda is dominated by the May producer price index and April business inventories. Barring a surprise, the inflation data will not affect the growth-minded Federal Reserve. The agenda also includes speeches by Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson and White House Economics Adviser Lawrence Lindsey.
