14 June 2001, 13:17  ECB revises 2001 euro-zone growth forecast downward

Frankfurt, June 14 (BridgeNews) - The European Central Bank revised its 2001 euro-zone growth forecast downward, mainly due to expectations of slower growth in the world economy and an anticipated drop in net exports. Euro-zone real gross domestic product growth is forecast to decline from 3.4% in 2000 to a range of 2.2-2.8% this year, the ECB said. In December, the bank projected growth of 2.6-3.6%. The ECB also expects inflation this year to be higher than envisaged earlier, mainly due to rising food prices.
