13 June 2001, 12:59  BOE Governor says sterling too high for euro entry

Sir Edward George, Governor of the Bank of England said in an interview with BBC's News24 that the current level of the pound was a "real obstacle to early entry into the euro," according to reports. However, George cautioned that a sterling decline against all currencies would "boost inflationary pressures".
