TOKYO (AFX) - Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs Haruhiko Kuroda said he cannot comment on the possibility of joint intervention to support the euro against the dollar and yen. However, he expressed unease over the recent sharp fall in the European currency.
"The euro has been falling sharply, causing a variety of effects on the foreign exchange market, so I hope the euro recovers against the dollar and yen as soon as possible to reflect economic fundamentals," he said.
Asked whether the ministry will seek joint intervention to support the weak euro, Kuroda said: "I cannot comment at all." However, he added: "All G7 member countries want their currencies to reflect fundamentals."
