Frankfurt, May 8 (BridgeNews) - German seasonally adjusted unemployment rose for the fourth consecutive month in April, as a slowing economy lead to stagnation in the labor market, German Federal Labor Office President Bernhard Jagoda said Tuesday when presenting the latest unemployment report. The number of unemployed in Germany in April rose above analysts' expectations, climbing a seasonally adjusted 6,000 from the previous month, compared with a revised monthly rise of 14,000 in March.
* * * A Bridge Fokus Deutschland survey of economists had forecast the number of unemployed rising around 3,000 in seasonally adjusted terms. In western Germany, the number of seasonally adjusted jobless jumped 14,000 on the month in April, compared with a revised monthly rise of 8,000 in March.
In eastern Germany, the April figure was down 8,000, compared with a rise of 6,000 in March.
In seasonally adjusted terms, German unemployment in April totaled 3.809 million people compared with revised 3.801 million in March, while in western Germany seasonally adjusted unemployment reached 2.449 million from a revised 2.435 million in March. Total April eastern German unemployment stood at 1.359 from 1.367 million a month earlier.
