NUREMBERG, Germany (AFX) - The number of German jobless increased
in seasonally adjusted terms by 6,000 in April from March, the fourth
rise in a row, sources told AFX News.
In adjusted terms, the jobless total rose 14,000 in western Germany
in April from March, but decreased by 8,000 in east Germany.
On an unadjusted basis, the total German jobless amounted to 3.867
mln people in April. The jobless rate fell to 9.5 pct in April from 9.8
pct in March.
In east Germany, the jobless rate fell to 17.7 pct from 18.6 pct ,
while in west Germany the rate fell to 7.5 pct in April from 7.7 pct in
March.
Labour office president Berhard Jagoda is due to comment on the
figures later this morning.
