3 May 2001, 11:07 French April consumer confidence indicator 0 vs +2 in March
PARIS (AFX) - A composite indicator of consumer confidence was
unchanged at 0 in April from +2 in March, according to a monthly survey
carried out by statistics office Insee.
The indicator represents the balance in percentage points between
consumers having experienced, or expecting, a rise in their living
standard and those seeing a decline.
Insee said the decline was mainly due to the fall in consumer
confidence as regards their past standard of living but householders'
opinions on their outlook for their personal finances stabilised.
Insee also noted that the inclination of those questioned to make
significant purchases of consumer goods also remained stable.
Following are the consumer confidence indicator and its components;
APRIL MARCH
Composite indicator 0 +2
Past personal financial situation -3 -4
Outlook for personal finances +6 +6
Past French standard of living -8 -1
Outlook for French standard of living -4 -1
