TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Retail sales fell 3.5 pct year-on-year in April after declining by a revised 2.9 pct in March, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.
The ministry provided the following April year-on-year data:
Department store sales - down 0.4 pct
Supermarket sales - down 5.8 pct
Food and beverage sales - down 2.9 pct
Clothing sales - down 3.0 pct
Others - down 4.9 pct
