23 May 2001, 17:03 Eurogroup's Reynders to request budget plans from new Italian govt
BRUSSELS (AFX) - Eurogroup president, Belgian finance minister DDA
Reynders, said he will be pressing the new Italian government to
provide information on its plans for fiscal consolidation and
structural reform.
He said he will make these enquiries at the next eurogroup meeting
on June 5.
He told an American Chamber of Commerce meeting that the Eurogroup
should be proactive rather than reactive in preventing budgetary
problems among member states adding that only then could situations
such as the dispute over Ireland's tax cuts be avoided.
