22 May 2001, 12:30  BOE'S Wadhwani Sees Inflation Expectations Down

Sushil Wadhwani, a member of the Bank of England's monetary policy committee, Monday said in Washington inflation expectations, as well as inflation, have steadily come down in the four years since the Bank became independent and adopted an inflation target. Indeed, inflation has come down more than expected, partly because the pound "has been persistently stronger than we expected," he said.
