--ONS: Latest trend estimate shows UK trade gap widening

London, May 21 (BridgeNews) - The U.K. trade performance is continuing to deteriorate and the trade deficit is set to widen, the Office for National Statistics said on Monday. The ONS reported that the April goods trade gap with non-EU countries was 2.661 billion sterling, above the 2.5-billion-sterling gap markets had expected. Meanwhile the March world goods trade gap was 2.882 billion sterling, again above market forecasts of a 2.7-billion-sterling deficit.

The ONS said the March trade balance had been hit by a deterioration in exports, in particular to the U.S.
At the same time as the trade figures, the ONS also published data on the public finances while the Bank of England and the major lending organizations published figures about the growth in the money supply and lending.
