11 May 2001, 16:48 OUTLOOK: UK April jobless down 5,000; March average earnings up 5.0 pct
LONDON (AFX) - The UK April jobless total is expected to have
fallen a seasonally-adjusted 5,000 on a claimant-count basis from
March, according to the median of 18 analysts' forecasts compiled by
AFX News.
The claimant count fell a seasonally-adjusted 5,500 to 995,200 in
March, while the unemployment rate stood at 3.3 pct, unchanged on the
previous month.
March headline average earnings - the average of the year-on-year
increase in the seasonally-adjusted average earnings index for each of
the latest three months - are expected to have risen 5.0 pct
year-on-year, unchanged from the three months to February.
Three months to March unit wage costs are forecast to have fallen
1.0 pct year on year, compared with the 1.4 pct decline recorded in
February.
Labour market data are released on Wednesday April 16th.
