5 April 2001, 17:24 UK CBI's Barker appointed to BoE's MPC as replacement for Julius
LONDON (AFX) - Confederation of British Industry chief economic
adviser Kate Barker will replace DeAnne Julius as an independent member
of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee from June 1,
Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown said.
Before joining the CBI in 1994, Barker was chief economist at Ford
Europe for nine years.
Julius, whose term expires on May 31, is rumoured to be considering
options in the private sector.
