TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - The Tokyo-area April consumer price index rose 0.3 pct month-on-month after falling 0.1 pct in March, the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications said. Year-on-year, April CPI declined 0.8 pct following a 0.9 pct decline in the previous month, marking the 20th month of year-on-year falls, it said. Except for the prices of fresh food, Tokyo-area prices in April rose 0.4 pct after rising by 0.1 pct in March. In April, the core CPI fell 0.9 pct year-on-year following a 1.1 pct decline in March, marking the 19th month of year-on-year falls, the longest on record. On a month-on-month basis, April core CPI was up 0.4 pct from March, while in March it was up 0.1 pct from February. Fuel prices in April rose 4.7 pct year-on-year, following a 5.1 pct rise in the previous month, while textile products fell 1.7 pct year-on-year in April, after registering a 1.9 pct fall in the previous month.
