26 April 2001, 13:29  Germany's N Rhine-Westphalia April CPI above original forecasts

Frankfurt, April 26 (BridgeNews) - The consumer price index in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia rose 0.3% in April from March and was up 2.9% on the year, the state's statistics office in Dusseldorf said Thursday. As in other German states that already released their inflation data, the highest monthly rises were recorded in prices for meat, seasonal goods, fuels and heating oil. The data is above original forecasts.
* * * A survey of analysts conducted by BridgeNews and Bridge Fokus Deutschland pegged German April preliminary CPI at up 0.2% from March and up 2.7% on the year.
Following the inflation data from those states which have released April figures so far, Bridge Fokus Deutschland now expects German preliminary CPI to be up 0.3% from March and up 2.8% on the year.
