Citing recent data showing the economy weakening at the endof 2000 and the first few months in 2001, the Reserve Bank ofAustralia cut its key overnight rate to 5.5% from 5.75%. Later inthe day, the fourth-quarter GDP data showed that the economyshrank 0.6% on quarter.
