5 March 2001, 16:09  EXPANSION IN EMU SERVICES SLOWS FURTHER

The service sector in the eurozone continued to expand in February but at a slowerrate than in January, . The seasonally adjusted servicesactivity index fell in February to 54.4, its lowest level in nearly two years, from 55.3 inJanuary. Input prices and prices charged rose again. Four of the six subindexes roseslightly, but the increases were not sufficient to offset declines in new business and business expectations.
--Service sector expansion in Germany slowed in Feb. to 51.2 from 53.2 in January. This was the lowest level since May 1999. Input prices rose but prices charged fell.
