27 March 2001, 11:42  FED'S SANTOMERO SEES NEAR-TIME BOTTOM

Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank President AnthonySantomero said Monday the current slowdown in the U.S.economy is likely to find "a bottom" in the first or secondquarter this year, with growth rebounding in the second half andreturning to a "more acceptable rate" in 2002. "I continue tobelieve that the second half (of the year) will show us returning toward a more appropriate growth rate," Santomero toldreporters after speaking at a luncheon for the DowntownEconomists Club. "I don't think we will achieve real GDP growthat potential growth until next year," he said.
