In U.S. stocks, the Dow closed higher by 182.75 points, at 9,687.53, but theNasdaq composite slipped 10.19, to end at 1918.49. The S&P 500 was up12.36 points, 1.13%, to finish at 1152.69. Volume was on the lighter side,just topping a billion shares traded, but what advances there were broad.
