22 March 2001, 12:16 BOJ's Hayami says too early to implement inflation targeting
Tokyo, March 22 (BridgeNews) - Bank of Japan Governor Masaru Hayami
said that due to deflationary pressures arising both from the demand and
the supply side it's too early to implement inflation targeting. Hayami
added the BOJ will exercise caution on its outright purchases of
government bonds, because if the central bank conducts outright purchases
in such a way as to create expectations of inflation, trust in government
bonds might be damaged.
