U.S. Treasuries were buffeted Wednesday, and by session end the
front end had done better while the long end suffered. At 3pm the 2/30
curve stood at +108 vs Tuesday's mark of +103.6. Treasuries came into
the N.Y. session higher across the curve, but ran into a bit of
resistance when CPI came in higher than expected. The U.S. February
consumer price index was up 0.3% with the core up 0.3%.
U.S. share prices were down sharply Wednesday, pressured by a
rise in the consumer price index and disappointment over Federal Reserve
accommodation. The Dow Industrials posted the heaviest losses, down
233.76, at 9487.00. The Nasdaq composite was down 27.21 to 1830.23.
