London, March 20 (BridgeNews) - Another strong month of receipts helped the government record a bigger-than-expected net cash surplus in February, according to figures released Tuesday by the Office for National Statistics.
The public sector net cash surplus was 2.862 billion sterling in February, compared with a surplus of 2.636 billion sterling in the same month last year and a surplus of 16.577 billion sterling in January. It was also stronger than forecasts of about 2 billion sterling. The cumulative surplus for the year is now a record 43.644 billion sterling.
* * * The public sector net borrowing requirement, which smoothes out cash figures and is the government's preferred measure of its finances, was a surplus of 3.508 billion sterling in February, compared with a surplus of 12.984 billion sterling in January and 2.724 billion sterling in February last year.
