2 March 2001, 13:41  European stocks open lower in cautious session

London--March 1--Europe's major equities markets opened lower as investors juggled a modest recovery on Wall Street with more profit warnings from some bellwether U.S. companies and further weakness in Asian markets. Technology and telecoms stocks edged lower after Oracle Corp. (ORCL) warned on profits, but more defensive sectors such as food and drinks were higher. Engineering companies also climbed, aided by solid results from Rolls-Royce PLC (GB;RR). At 0920 GMT, the FTSE Eurotop 100 Index was down 3.66 points, or 0.11%, at 3194.55.
