16 March 2001, 13:17  IMF REPORTEDLY TO CUT GROWTH FORECASTS IN APRIL

The IMF is likely in April to revise down its growth forecast forthe global economy for 2001 to 3.5% from 4.2%, Kyodo NewsAgency reported, citing IMF sources. However, the IMF then seesglobal growth rising to around 4% in 2002. economy to pick upagain and grow around 4% in 2002. The IMF is consideringrevising down its projections for 2001 US GDP to 1.7% from 3.2%growth and that the US will recover in 2002 to 4%. The IMF is also considering cutting Japanese growth forecasts to around1.0% in 2001 from the current forecast of 1.8%.
